"Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities have crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day. You shall begin it serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense."-Emerson

Caleb birth part 2

Okay, so I got tuckered out writing about Caleb's birth in the last post so I just kind of quit without finishing. So here's a little bit more...
He weaned off all breathing support and was fine for a day or two but then he had to go back on oxygen (and he's on oxygen still). They kept checking his CRP number, it's what lets them know if he has an infection and how bad it is. The first time they checked it the number was 4.8, then a couple days later it was 3.5. I asked the dr how low it needed to be for them to not be concerned and he said they wanted it below 2 and then the next day when they checked it it was 0.9, I was so thrilled! After that his only obstacle to coming home was eating but that took a few days. And he never did wean off the oxygen so he's still on that (and boy has that been fun...). And because he was coming home on oxygen Chad and I had to do a "room-in" in the NICU so they could make sure we knew what we were doing. So last Friday (the 13th) we packed a couple bags and headed over to the hospital where we were set up with oxygen and an apnea monitor and then put in a little room with a bed and a chair and that was pretty much it. That was a loooong night. It's been an 'experience' learning how to manage the oxygen and the monitor. But we did manage it and he's been home a week now and we just love him! I love to watch Isaac interact with him. Isaac was afraid to hold him at first because he didn't want to hurt him but then he did hold him and he was so soft and tender with him, it's so sweet. The kids like to help out wherever they can, they love to give him his pacifier and keep asking to feed him and change his diaper. It's a little weird to basically be 'on a leash' because the monitor doesn't have a very long cord so we pretty much just hang out within a four foot square radius in our living room. We have his pack-n-play set up right next to the couch and he sleeps in there, which means Chad sleeps on the couch because one of us has to be close to him all the time because the apnea monitor has been alarming and we have to move him to get him to start breathing again. And Chad has done most of the night duty so far because he's wonderful and he's letting me sleep and recover from this c-section.

On the way home!!
