"Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities have crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day. You shall begin it serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense."-Emerson

Owwie

Isaac slammed his finger in our door today. It immediately got black and blue and swelled up really big so I did the first-time thing and quickly took him in to the Doctor. The Dr was really nice and said it might be broken and sent us over for x-rays. Isaac loved looking at his x-rays and was so excited to tell Debbie all about it and show her his 'fossils.' Turns out, happily, it's not broken, just bruised.
Isaac is so funny. When the Dr was examining his finger he had Isaac put his hand palm up and the Dr put his finger across Isaac's hand and told him to grab onto his finger as tight as he could. So, instead of curling his hand around the Dr's finger, Isaac reached his good hand over and grabbed onto the Dr's hand. It was pretty funny, he knew it would hurt to curl that finger so he just used the other hand. Then the Dr was trying to figure out exactly how he slammed his finger and was pointing to the door asking 'was it this way?' and Isaac said, "No, I did it at home." Then as we walked down the hall he pointed to each door saying, "Not that door, and not that door." He takes things so literally!
My friend Mary came over and sat with the girls so I didn't have to bring them along and I'm so grateful for her! And apparently the girls told her all about 'hard poop' while we were gone. Well, if anyone knows about hard poop, it will be my girls! They're experts. [TMI? Yes. Truth? Also yes.] They put a splint on his hand just for comfort, he said that we can take it off as soon as he's ready.
So, lesson learned... if it's just a finger and the skin's not broken, splint it and wait it out for a few days before going into the doctor!

Honesty

Our FHE lesson tonight was on obeying the commandments and I was trying to explain to the kids what it means to be honest. "To be honest means that we don't take things that aren't ours. So, what do we do if we go to the store and they give us an extra dollar?" Debbie quickly answered, "Say thank you!!"

Winter Bugs take 2

Ugh.
Cosette started with a little cough the day after Isaac (so a little over a week ago) but it wasn't as bad so we weren't worried. Then she started getting a low grade fever at night, but still, the cough wasn't terrible so we didn't worry. Well, the cough started getting worse, bit by bit, and the fever continued all week, so I decided to take her in today. I almost didn't because I figured it was RSV and there wasn't anything they could do. Well, the Dr said it may have started out as RSV but it's turned into pneumonia. Fun. She's still happy so I'm still not terribly worried, but it's a bummer that she has to go through this. They gave her a breathing treatment but that did nothing to improve her lungs, so he sent us home on antibiotics with instructions to bring her back in if it gets worse or the fever doesn't go away. I'm not anticipating having to bring her back, but we'll see.

The picture makes her look like she feels worse than she really does. She's actually quite happy and chipper. Pretty much the only symptom is a horrendous cough.

The Baby's Turning Three!!

Little Miss Cosetty is turning THREE!!! I can't believe my baby is three! Where does the time go?
You can tell she's the third child because she has yet to have a birthday party with more than just her immediate family...
She doesn't seem to mind though.

And I'm totally lazy because instead of thinking hard and buying her something and surprising her, I just took her to target and walked around and let her choose her own birthday present.
She chose this scooter and she loves it! I think it will be great.

I took these pictures a month ago but just never had a reason to post them. I bought that skirt on impulse and she loves it.

Isaac and Cosette crashed on the couch earlier this week. They're both feeling pretty crummy, so I put in a show and they both nodded off, it was so sweet.

Winter Bugs

Isaac got a cough on Saturday. It came on suddenly, but one or all of the kids have had a cough at one time or another since mid-December, so I wasn't worried. More like irritated actually. Anyway, we took him to church on Sunday because we thought it was just your run of the mill cough. Sunday night he developed a fever and was so miserable. It was breaking my heart, he was just laying there in bed, burning up with fever and moaning and whimpering. It was so sad. Monday morning he woke up feeling ok, with no fever, so we all went out to play early that afternoon. Then last night he had a fever again and was feeling miserable again. When he woke up this morning, even though his fever was gone, I just felt like I needed to take him into the Dr. This cough just sounded a little different than the other coughs. Well, I took him in and it turns out he has RSV. It's not really worrisome at his age, but the Dr. said that it makes you feel pretty awful. They gave him an albuterol treatment. He was so brave. Usually something like this would have freaked him out. Well, I guess he was still pretty freaked out, but he just sat there breathing like they asked him too. I was very proud of him.
But now I feel terrible because I took him out in public all over the place and he was contagious the whole time!

It's probably silly that I took this picture, but I had my camera with me and thought, "What the heck."

Miss Cosetty

Cosette loves to do this with me. She puts her nose and forehead right up against mine and then I try to 'eat' her cheeks. I know it's silly, but she loves it.

Chad took these pictures last night. Unfortunately for me, Cosette had eaten taco's for dinner and kept burping right into my mouth. GROSS!
~
Aaaaah, the many faces of Cosetty. I need to stop steriotyping her. I've started calling her a monster and she doesn't like it. Maybe if I called her my sweet little angel child she might start acting like one? I just might give that a try.

Oh man, this little girl drives me to distraction. But just when I give up all hope and give in to the idea that her whole purpose in life is to make my life miserable, she goes and does something totally cute and sweet. Preservation I guess, she knows mom's about to lose it so she pulls out the big guns. Ugh, I remember feeling this way about the other kids when they were about 3, but it seems to have started earlier with her. She's just so darn determined!! Well, dear Cosetty, to quote your wonderful grandmother, "It's a good thing I love you so much!!!"

I don't want to grow up

I've mentioned in the past that Isaac is very adamant that he doesn't want to grow up. He's been saying it for months. He refuses to get himself buckled in the car because, "I don't want to grow up." He refuses to get himself dressed or put his shoes on because, "I don't want to grow up and be a daddy." He's been using that excuse for lots of things. I'm not quite sure what it stems from, but I finally decided it needed to change. So, Isaac loves to play on the computer and I've been letting him have a turn everyday after Debbie's turn (she has to read two books to earn computer privileges), so I decided that I'm going to make Isaac earn his computer privileges too. The first day I told him that he couldn't play on the computer because only big boys can play on the computer. He LOST it. Beyond hysterical. Finally he came out and between sobs tearfully plead with me to play and I told him that if he said to me, "I will buckle myself in the car" then I would let him play. He refused at first but then when I didn't budge he finally said it. So he was able to play. I made it very clear to him that we weren't going to allow anymore of this "I don't want to grow up" nonsense and he hasn't said it since. And he has buckled himself in the car and gets himself dressed with little or no fuss now. (Knock on wood...)
I think that maybe he's afraid of dying or something. Because that night after I insisted that he stop saying he didn't want to grow up, Debbie and he were talking and Debbie said, "I'm going to be a mom when I grow up." And Isaac said, "Hey guess what Debbie, I'm going to die." What!?! So I think that's why he didn't want to grow up. I asked him where we went when we died and told him that we got to be with Jesus and that we would be so happy and we wouldn't be sad at all. So, I think that somehow, through one method or another, hopefully, Isaac is done saying he doesn't want to grow up.

This and That

I've recently rediscovered Dr. Mario and play it every once in a while (okay fine, every day), so Debbie made me this sign to put on the tv.
Do you notice the wii remote in my hand? I got the message, no more Dr. Mario for me. :)
~
Cosette is still in her crib. We have a crib tent which makes it convient because we can zip her in and keep her contained when she's in time out. Well, a few days ago she discovered a way to unzip herself. So yesterday she was throwing a tantrum and I counted her and she suddenly got a gleam in her eye and continued to cry even with a small smile on her face. I could SEE in her face that she was thinking, "Put me in time out mom, you'll see, I'm smart and I'll just get right out." So, we got to three and as I picked her up to carry her to her crib she laughed and then continued laughing as I zipped her up. But I had a trick. I put the loop at the end of the zipper around the rod at the end and she can't unzip it from the inside. So I left the room and it was quiet for a minute or two and then suddenly she started crying and screaming. Haha! She thought she was sooo smart.
I've discovered a trick to helping Isaac clean. I think he's like me, he sees a big mess and gets totally overwhelmed and just sits down and won't do anything. So a few weeks ago as we were cleaning out his room I asked him to help and he refused so I said, "Just pick up ONE toy and put it in the box, that's all, just ONE toy." He hopped down and picked up one toy and then continued picking up until it was all clean.

These are my boys talking about dinasaurs before bed.
