Isaac is getting a lot better with his reading. He brought home Diary of a Wimpy Kid tonight and was excited to start reading it. He explained the book to us this way...
"My friend saw the movie and he said there are some bad words in the movie but there are no bad words in the book."
Then an hour or so later he comes out to get a bookmark from me and I asked him if he liked the book so far.
"Yeah, there were some bad words but I said them quietly."
Haha, he is too cute! How it kills me to know that someday he will lose that sweet innocence.
And while we're talking about funny things kids say...
Yesterday we had to drive down a steep hill that was a little bumpy and after going over one particularly 'roller coaster'ish section Cosette said, "Wow, even my bum got scared on that one!"
Love, love, love these kids.
"Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities have crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day. You shall begin it serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense."-Emerson

Debbie is 8!
Debbie turned 8 today! And I've just got to brag about her a little... She got a book from grandma and grandpa Rogers and read all 256 pages of it this afternoon, she devoured it! She is so her father's daughter.
And here's a picture of Isaac coming out of the anaesthesia after getting his tonsils out. Yeah, they told me not to take pictures so I put my big camera away and took this on my phone... I'm such a rebel.
He's doing so much better now!! I'm so grateful! He's back. And I'm so relieved. I was very worried there for a while but he is finally feeling better.
So, happy birthday Debbie and welcome back Isaac!!
Beautiful day
We had the wonderful opportunity to go to the temple with Chad's sister and her husband and be there when they got sealed to their beautiful daughter, Nya.
Debbie's birthday party
We had Debbie's friend birthday party on Friday, it was a safari/animal theme and grandma Westerson came into town and put it all together, she did a great job!
It is impossible to get a regular smile from Isaac nowadays.

Results (kindof)
We finally got the biopsy results back. Cosette tested positive for celiac disease and she's lactose intolerant. But the doctor is still skeptical that it's really celiac disease because he said the blood test and the biopsy gave conflicting results because the blood test was only a weak positive. I'm kinda wondering, though, if he just remembered wrong and thought she'd had a full-on negative blood test and that's why he doubts it. But in any case he said he wants to be certain before he gives her a diagnosis that would effect her for the rest of her life, so he ordered a few more blood tests, one of which is a genome test to see if she even carries the celiac gene. We go back in 2 weeks to find the results of those tests. I hope that visit goes better than yesterday's visit went. We were supposed to get the scope results yesterday but as we were checking in for our appointment their network went down and we had to wait for him to call us today. I was really, really frustrated. Looking back I'm thinking I may have overreacted just a bit, but thankfully I didn't do anything more than scowl at the doctor and say mean things about him to everyone I met... I think I had been more anxious about those results than I thought I was. I thought I was being so calm and relaxed and carefree, totally a chill mom who can handle anything cause I'm cool like that. Yeah right. But we have some answers and will (hopefully) know more in a couple weeks.

Not to be outdone...
Cosette decided to go ahead and just figure out how to ride a bike without training wheels. I think it was a little bit of an, "anything you can do I can do better" attitude that motivated her the most. No way was she going to allow her older sister to do anything without being able to keep up with her.
We're very proud of you miss Cosetty!

Sweet boy, please come back
This tonsillectomy has robbed us of our sweet little boy. He's been so tempermental and sad lately, just not himself. I can't sleep because he's laying in his room whimpering right now but he won't let us comfort him. I had no idea it was going to be this bad! I know people warned us, but I was not prepared for the emotional trauma that we would all go through with this. It's hard to have your child hurt and know there's NOTHING you can do about it. And he's been hurting for so long, I thought it would be better by now. He's weak because he still can't eat or drink much, he's losing weight (weight he doesn't have to lose) and is very pale, sometimes bordering on green. He's exhausted because he's not sleeping well, either because he wakes up in pain or we have to wake him up to give him pain medicine - and there's no good answer with this choice, if we wake him up he cries and throws a fit and fights us, but if we let him sleep then he wakes up hurting and cries and throws a fit and fights us. He's in pain all the time and just all around feels miserable, I hate seeing him like this. He's just so SAD, not at all like his usual self. What if I broke my child?? What if he never comes back? The doctor recommended taking the tonsils out but ultimately left the decision up to me, did I make the wrong choice?? I feel like I broke Isaac, and I feel like he hates me for it but I deserve his hate. I walk on eggshells around him all day long, the littlest things set him off. I know he's not behaving this way intentionally, he just DOESN'T feel well. But that thought only softens the stress of the situation a little. He went to school today, I kinda felt like I could keep him home and distract him with movies and legos or we could give him tylenol and he could be distracted by friends and learning and the busyness of school. He came home happy so I feel like I made a good choice, even though his happy only lasted until we got through our front door.

Baptism
I took Debbie's baptism pictures yesterday.
I can't believe she's getting baptized in 2 weeks, it's crazy, she's been excited and looking forward to it for months now.

Last day of preschool
Tuesday was Cosette's last day of preschool. She has been sad about it for weeks, she loves preschool so much. Thankfully they are great about working with the kids to prepare them for things so by the time it actually ended she was ok with it. I am so grateful that Cosette got into this preschool, they were wonderful and, to my suprise, she actually learned quite a bit. It was such a great experience!

Tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy
Isaac got his tonsils out on Monday. They took his adenoids out too, I guess that's what they do now. It all went great, very average and wonderful. Accept that his recovery so far seems to be going so much better than they said it would, he's just taken it all in stride.
They wouldn't let me take pictures in recovery, sounded like they got sued once and it ruined it for everyone, lame.
He started freaking out when he was coming out of the anaesthesia, thrashing and kicking, so they gave him some morphine. I was worried he was going to smack his head on the side of the bed or knee himself in the face because he was thrashing around so much, but the morphine kicked in pretty quick and he calmed down and has just done amazing ever since.

They warned us that he wouldn't want to eat and that he would be in a lot of pain and that it was going to be miserable but so far it has been a lot milder than everyone has said it would be. However, we were warned that days 4 and 5 would be the most painful and we haven't hit that yet so we'll see how he does in the next few days.
We didn't have any problem getting him to eat and drink at the surgical center and he's done great at home too. He ate at least 10 popsicles that first day, which was perfect, and he LOVED that I let him watch hours and hours of Mythbusters. The only problem is now he doesn't want to go back to school because, let's face it, who wants to sit in school when you can be at home, not in pain because of Lortab and Motrin, eating popsicles and pudding and watching tv all day long??? And it is precisely because of that attitude that the tv stayed off today and I tried to make it a very boring day.

Riding a bike
Debbie taught herself to ride a bike sans training wheels this week! She loves it, wants to ride her bike all the time now.
Cosette has been working on it to but hasn't quite mastered it yet.

EGD
Yesterday was the day. They did an esophagogastroduodenoscopy, a flexible sigmoidoscopy, and took biopsies from her rectum.
I am so thankful that grandma Rogers was willing and able to come down and help, I couldn't have done it without her. The doctor was running a little behind when we got there so they gave her some medicine to "keep her calm."
It totally knocked her out. She was awake but just barely. Poor girl couldn't talk and couldn't hardly move but she wanted to, she kept attempting to move and talk. I was grateful for the medicine though, I think it would have been a more stressful hour had she been alert and worried.
This is her attempting a smile when she first got back. They did IV anesthesia so it took her an hour or so to wake up.
And she did not wake up happy...
She was not happy about the IV, it was very concerning to her.
Everything went so smooth, it was wonderful. We did have to take her potty before she was even remotely awake and that was an interesting experience. The procedure went great and the doctor said that her colon was "beautifully clean," he was very impressed. I'm probably more pleased with myself about that than I should be. He said everything looked great, he did find some nodules but those could be normal, he took about 20 biopsies total and we'll know in a week or so the results from those. Our next appointment is on the 23rd.
Now on to Isaac. He'll be getting his tonsils out on Monday. I'm kind of irritated with the doctor though, he must be new at this or just doesn't have tact with kids, I don't know, but when he said he wanted to take the tonsils out he said to Isaac, "It's going to hurt. A lot. And for a long time." And then he went on to list in front of Isaac all the possible complications. So Isaac is understandably nervous. I find out this afternoon what time he goes in.

Strep (again) and Dishes
Isaac has strep throat again and the scarlet fever rash came back as well. I think we caught it early enough though, so it didn't get bad. Chad noticed Isaac had a fever late Friday night and then when his throat hurt Saturday and he had a fever Chad took him in and sure enough, strep throat. His tonsils were huge and are still quite swollen even after nearly 4 days of antibiotics. So we go see the ENT tomorrow to see what he thinks.
Cosette has discovered that she enjoys doing dishes. I wasn't too thrilled about having her do them because of the watery mess, she just really loves it. So much that she threw a big tantrum yesterday when I told her she couldn't wash dishes right then. She actually does a pretty good job. I shouldn't be surprised, she's my little cleaner, she loves wiping things down and making things clean. I wonder how long it will last...
