...is why we have to wait until the kids are older to own anything nice.

Because sofas are the perfect place to practice gymnastics!
Well, it's either gymnastics or the circus... because one will stand on the arm of the sofa while the other one says in an announcer voice, "Introducing Debbie the amazing!"

Who needs nice things? I've given up trying and decided it's not worth the emotion. Nice things, they're overrated anyway, right? They are just that, things, something of little importance. :) You got it right, enjoy the kids.
